Description

The issue behind most project failures is rarely included in project methodologies, project management software or training courses.  It’s not executive support, user involvement, clear objectives, or even having the right team.

It’s the individual.

To know each project team member’s skill set, background, project role, responsibilities and deadlines isn’t enough to ensure a successful project.  It’s only when we can understand what really makes each individual tick (and what ticks them off) that a Project Manager is truly effective.

More than theory, Results by Design is the product of the two authors’ real-world experience working with diverse teams of all different sizes and compositions on a wide variety of projects.  Rather than telling, they provide workable tools and methodologies that are applicable for seasoned project managers and those new to the role.

Results by Design is unique as a Project Management handbook because it introduces the reader to psychological type theory (temperament) in the context of project management, effective communication and collaboration in the workplace.  Temperament theory is the idea that every person is “hard-wired” or inborn with distinct preferences that determine how we gather and process data, make decisions and relate to the world around us.  It impacts our motivations, amplifies our natural strengths and creates areas for development.

Together with a workable methodology and project plan, when Project Managers understand their own temperament as well as the others on the team, those tools will generate tremendous collaboration and productivity.  However, simply having the tools available isn’t enough; the success of any project is constrained by the willingness and ability of team members to fully apply them.

"I have employed personality concepts for more than a decade when managing projects and this is the first I have found that effectively integrates temperament into the overall project management process. Even experienced project managers often overlook an important part of managing a project team—the “team” itself; the people. Results by Design is the answer."
